Prospera Global | International Medical Assistance
Prospera Global successfully managed a complex international medical repatriation involving a Pakistani national residing in Qatar who sustained severe injuries following a road traffic accident in Saudi Arabia.
The patient, a 51-year-old expatriate working in Qatar, was travelling in Saudi Arabia when the accident occurred. He was admitted to a tertiary hospital in Riyadh where doctors diagnosed multiple life-threatening injuries requiring intensive care treatment and multidisciplinary medical management.
Medical reports confirmed extensive trauma including intracranial hemorrhage, cervical spine fractures, pelvic and acetabular fractures with hip dislocation, multiple rib and vertebral fractures, and facial injuries. Due to the severity of his condition, the patient required prolonged ICU care, mechanical ventilation, and eventually a tracheostomy to maintain airway stability.
Once the patient's condition was stabilized, the treating medical team recommended transferring him to Qatar for continued treatment and rehabilitation. However, the case quickly developed into a complex logistical and regulatory challenge.
During the patient's hospitalization, his Saudi visa expired. This created a major regulatory barrier to transferring him across international borders.
Without valid immigration clearance, cross-border movement could lead to legal complications or border restrictions. At the same time, the patient remained medically fragile, with spinal injuries and airway dependency requiring specialized handling during transport.
The case therefore required simultaneous resolution of two critical challenges:
Managing this situation required careful coordination between hospital teams, immigration authorities, consular offices, and medical transport providers.
Prospera Global implemented a structured case management strategy to address both the clinical and administrative complexities involved.
Our team initiated immediate communication with the relevant consular authorities to address the expired visa issue. After coordinating documentation and medical reports, an emergency visa extension was secured for the patient. This step was essential to ensure the transfer could proceed legally and without complications at the border.
Given the patient's medical condition, Prospera Global designed a phased evacuation plan to minimize clinical risk during transport. The strategy included:
Following stabilization and regulatory clearance, the patient was transported from Riyadh to the Qatar border via a fully equipped ALS road ambulance. Strict spinal stabilization protocols and continuous medical monitoring were maintained throughout the journey to ensure patient safety.
After completing immigration formalities at the border, Prospera Global coordinated onward air evacuation from Doha to transfer the patient safely to the receiving medical facility. This ensured a seamless transition from ground transport to air evacuation while maintaining uninterrupted medical supervision.
